Job Directory
This is a sub-directory of the DLS-1 installed directory containing all Batch File information.
LAN
An acronym for Local Area Network. A LAN allows several computers to be connected
to one another.
Machine
Another term for computer.
Menu Bar
The list of menu items that appears at the top of the screen. To activate the menu bar
using the mouse, move the mouse until the cursor is over the desired item. Click the left
mouse button to activate the item. To activate the menu bar items using the keyboard,
press [ALT] and the highlighted letter corresponding to the desired menu item.
Modem
An acronym which means Modulate - Demodulate. It is a device that converts (modulates)
digital information from a computer into analog form so it can then be transmitted over a
telephone line. A modem at the other end of the line then receives the information, and
converts it back (demodulates) to a form the computer can understand.
On-Line
This term is used in data communications to mean that the line of communication is
still open, or in other words, neither party has hung up.
Panel Identifier Code
This code allows the program to differentiate between customer Work Files as well as
panels.
Path
This describes the route through the directory structure to get to a certain sub-
directory.
Port
The port is where your mouse/modem is plugged into your computer. If you have a
serial mouse, you must select the proper port. If you have a bus mouse, you do not
need to use this option. If you do not know the proper location for your mouse, consult
your computer owner’s manual or your computer installer.
Prompt
A term used to describe when the computer prints a message to the screen telling the
user to input data from the keyboard.
Security Stamp
A stamp is a series of eight alphanumeric characters, which is put onto all customer
Work Files as a security measure to ensure that files created by your computer can
only be accessed by your computer.
Status Level
Different status levels will restrict operators from performing different functions in the
program.
Toggle
To switch between two options, such as Yes or No.
Window
A demarcated area of the screen. There are two types of windows: Normal windows,
which display text, and Edit windows, which are for the modification of text and data.
Work File Directory
The directory in which the customer Work Files are stored. The Work File directory is
a subdirectory of the directory the DLS-1 software is installed in.
